Back with a sleepy vengeance!

Well, I'm in a better mood today. Yesterday I signed off of the computer and KICKED BUTT.

I correctly guessed my way through the city to a road that both took me straight to the sports store AND got me home in a very efficient straight line. I braved the confusion of the sporting goods store and bought their one yoga mat (in a very, very girly light violet. Eesh.) then I went home, washed the mat, went to the store, bought laundry detergent and cat food for my cat, returned to the apartment, cleaned the kitchen, did the dishes, handwashed my clothes in the sink, tidied my room, did my homework, cajoled myself into doing some yoga, and passed out. Then I overslept this morning. Eheh.

But bad mood defeated! Just now very, very tired. Going home to sleep directly after our lecture, though lord only knows how long that's going to be.

And did I say cat? Yeah. There's an adorable, friendly, heartbreakingly skinny kitty in our courtyard, and I figure I can at least fatten him up a little before I go home in August. What can I say? I don't have anything to take care of here, and if you know anything about my life at home, you know that that's a big fat change.

The sports store was very interesting. It was a huge building, and called its self a sports superstore, but only two of the floor had actual goods for sale. The bottom floor had boxing gloves, wetsuits (???), tennis rackets, etc, but in surprisingly small numbers and limited selection. Thus the one yoga mat. It was very small compared to most american stores. The second floor, where the big sale was going on, was a little better stocked, with very very expensive american clothes. Do I want to pay $60 (marked down) for a nike t-shirt? No, I do not! I got my mat and left, but not before getting my reciept signed by one of the two security guards. Russia is weird.

Off to lecture! Hugs and love to all!

PS Happy birthday Sophia! YARRR, Annabelle! Hi, Cass and Nurmi and Noni and mom and dad and Susan and everyone else who has left me comments! The first thing I do when I get to the computer lab is sign on and read all of the comments I've gotten, usually twice. It makes me all warm and fuzzy.

  1. Hooray for yoga! It's amazing how much of a difference it makes.
We went to Noni's play "A Little Night Music"--you guessed it.... a musical. But surprisingly I really enjoyed it! The costumes were really fantastic and every roll was played with real verve. I was very impressed and I'll admit, somewhat relieved :-)
Everything is fine here. Shae is having a sleepover with Simone this Friday. The fish are doing great. The community garden project is going really well. We will have an amazing amount of tomatoes when you get back- As of yesterday I have over 40 tomato plants in the ground. Well be canning a few I think! Well love you very much and will call you tomorrow. xoxo

  2. When I go to Costco the door ogres there want to sign off on my receipt?! But they're just door ogres - they're not Security Guards. I bet they just wanted to chat you up.

$60 for a Nike t-shirt. Teehee. I was appalled when I went to Finland the first time. I wanted to buy some Finnish made clothes - and there weren't any??!!! The first day I looked in the paper over there there was an ad for a sale! And yes, it was FOR NIKE SPORTSWEAR. Sheesh. Very disappointing. VBG

  3. Peary called me yesterday to report a kitty found in a dumpster by the cafeteria on campus. After a phone call or two, she found out that it is a feralcat that lives around there. They built it an escape ladder and went away. Today's adventure with four legs featured Nellie running down the sidewalk in front ot the house. By the time I got out there, both dogs were found to be in the house. An hour later, I found the Amherst door wide open; Nellie inside; Delilah gone. I found her in the yard across the street but this time she came when called.

One more weekend for the show with the cast party here after the matinee and strike on Sunday. Kimmey-Rossi's are coming Friday and leaving on Sunday. Marcia arrived last Saturday and left Tuesday.

Your experience with the store makes me think of the abundance that surrounds us - a blessing? - - and the reach of some elements of that abundance - - A curse? Ah well, I must go through stacks of paperwork tonight - - and plant some of those exotic tomatoes tomorrow.

We miss you!! Ta - N

  4. Hello my love, so sorry I have not written lately, I am embarking upon a course of study as an holitic nutritional consultant and am plunging into so many reading materials and nutritional tweakings of my diet that I my hours are merrily filled and other IMPORTANT things like keeping up with my beloved niece have been sorely neglected. However, here I am in a hotel in Ashland with darlings Sophia and Ted reading in bed next to me as we await the continental breakfast in this oh-so-inexpensive-yet-mostly-clean-and-comfortable place of lodging on the road to the Russian River, so I have time and the wireless connection to catch up with you. Though your prolific reportage will require more time I see.......We saw Much Ado About Nothing last night in the Elizabethan Theatre, delightful, and today we wil have a backstage tour and then drive on all six of us in the streaking silver bullet, (aka less imaginitively mick mini-van). I must read on now, and stop writing. Sophia says good morning, although she more readily says UGH as she tries to read book two of the Warriors despite Ted and I conversing over her head. Ted says he is being chauffer to a bunch of nuts, though I think he is the most hazelnut of all us. He is reading an Ivan Doig book, and the lady nextdoor in our humble dwellings saw his book and said she loves his books and that ID is her neighbor in Seattle. Sophia is making me post this now, so I can read her your postings. xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxox S C T

  5. Cats, wild cats. We had an encounter with one of the many feral cats on the island of Hawaii, so cute and interesting to see in the lava-scape of said island, though mighty bad for the bird popultion it seems. One cute kitten wisely loitered around the bbq area by the pool, and got many nibbles and attempted cuddlings, some successful as it grew fatter and less wild the during our 10 days there. My tired girl is insisting upon snatching the computer from my fingers and searching you-tube for some amusing amusing to indulge in. BAck to you later. xoxoC
